We want YOU to get to know us better! Each week, we’ll be meeting a member of our touring companies and learning a bit more about them than you probably want to. So meet this week’s Cock:

Gregory Todd Hess

Vital Statistics:

  • Age: 27
  • Birthplace: Charlottesville, Virginia
  • Hobbies: fly fishing, making music, reading, writing, rithmetic
  • How Long You've Been Touring: Just started.

Growing up, I thought I would be...

Danny Kaye, world's greatest comedian.

I’m most proud...

"Pride cometh before the fall." That said, I am probably most proud of being a full time actor. Now that I have said that, I'm sure I will be working at TGI Friday's in Elk Grove Village starting next month.

The one thing I wont leave home without...

is my iPod. Jams are important. Not the under appreciated pants/shorts from the 80's. I'm talking music. Living in Chicago in the winter is difficult, and without the right soundtrack, it's damned near impossible.

As a comedian I...

how am I supposed to fill this in?! I am a COMEDIC ACTOR! When will this place start taking my work seriously??? Maybe when I open my one man show called "Guatanashow" about an actor imprisoned for his radical scenework. Then the line between comedy and drama will be forever blurred... I think I just fell asleep thinking about this.

My first job was...

as a German farmer in 1610 Palatinate Germany. Welcome to the Museum of American Frontier Culture in Staunton, Virginia! I wore a costume and did a lot of farm chores. Two things I learned about being a farmer in 1610 are that wool knickers are hot (jams are better), and if you should ever want to get out of cutting rye, just make a swath with your scythe and lie down for a nap.

When I need to relax...

I do bikram yoga. It is hotter than wool knickers. Or I drink wine. I rarely do both simultaneously.

My pet peeve...

I'm not sure if I have one... I shall make one up! I HATE it when brandy is served in an inappropriately sized snifter. That really ruffles my blouse.

My favorite Karaoke song to sing...

"Always a Woman," by Billy Joel. Why? There is a 75% chance my voice cracks on the high note. It's dangerous karaoke.

The best advice I ever received...

was from my mom. Maybe not advice, but a mantra. "Not if, but when." I love that. Or it might be from Shakespeare: "No man's pie is freed from his ambitious finger."

My favorite tour was...

NAPA VALLEY. 'Nuff said. I still keep in touch with some people I met there, and they send me wine that I still have to pay for.

My favorite scene to perform...

I love "CIA". There is a great improvised word association game that always falls off the rails then rights itself again.

My oddest interaction with an audience member...

was maybe when I fell off the ETC stage in the dark and miraculously used the shoulder of some unsuspecting banker to avoid disaster and recover before the lights came up. In that moment, we both made strange noises. Then we both pretended like it never happened.

Wow! Greg Hess from W&M's own IT! I remember you saying you were going out for Blue Man Group. I guess this is even awesome-r! Congrats! A couple of us were talking about you a year ago or so, wondering whether you were in Chicago-- guess we've all been in the same town for a while now. This gives me all the more incentive to see another Second City show! Congrats, Greg!!! -Meghan (a short blonde fan you probably can't remember, but don't feel bad, really, no no, I'm used to it!)
